"Did you know that the seed pods of the Snapdragon plant look like tiny screaming pixie skulls?" said a friend to me last summer. I rushed into the garden to check on my own snapdragon plant and sure enough, where the flowers had been, now hung dozens of minuscule skulls, their mouths stretched wide open as if screaming or performing some sad operatic number only the plants could hear. I collected some of the delicate pods and cast them in sterling silver, forever frozen with their mouths agape in silent song, to be worn around the neck of someone who appreciates the tiny, often unnoticeable charms of the natural world.
